Simplorer, Maxwell, ePhysics for power electronics
The Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) is one of the nation's relatively few National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers. A consortium of five universities—Virginia Tech, University of Wisconsin Madison, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, North Carolina A&T State University, and the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez—its vision is to provide the nation with the capabilities to become a world leader in power electronics.
THE NEED
To improve the computer-aided design (CAD) practice in power electronics through integration of mechanical and electrical CAD tools
THE SOLUTION
Simplorer®, Maxwell®, ePhysics™
"Ansoft introduced the most comprehensive set of integrated software tools for power-electronics design," said Dr. Dushan Boroyevich, Co-Director of CPES, which uses Maxwell for electromagnetic and electromechanical analysis, ePhysics for thermal and mechanical stress analysis, and Simplorer for circuit-based time- and frequency-domain analysis.
According to Boroyevich, “The ability to integrate electromagnetic, electromechanical, thermal, structural mechanical, and circuit analyses and simulations within a unified working environment will greatly enhance power-electronics research and development and provide an opportunity for a drastic reduction of product design cycles.”
