Systems built by EMC Corporation have to serve many users who read and write vast amounts of data simultaneously over a network. To orchestrate this, dense boards with many ICs are used.
Some ICs interface with fiber-optic cables at very high data rates, while others interface with a backplane at moderate data rates. The more functionality can be integrated on one board, the more efficient the data processing can become. Currently, typical boards for this application have over thirty layers, hundreds of ICs, thousands of components, and thousands of nets.
To achieve power integrity, traditionally several design-and-measurement iterations were needed, adding significantly to the development time. With SIwave, however, simulations can significantly reduce the number of design cycles.
