Maxwell for MEMS scanners
Related Media
Microvision is the world leader in high-resolution scanned beam display and imaging systems built upon the company's proprietary silicon micro-mirror technology. The company designs and develops high-precision scanning systems and related technologies that enable personal and projection displays and image capture products for a broad range of military, medical, industrial, professional, and consumer products.
THE NEED
To reduce the size of a novel magnet configuration within a MEMS scanner without sacrificing performance
THE SOLUTION
Maxwell®
Microvision used Ansoft's Maxwell software to perform finite-element analysis (FEA) on a novel magnet configuration within the electromagnetic, moving-coil actuators that actuate Nomad's microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) scanner.
With Maxwell FEA, the company modeled many different iterations of magnet shapes, sizes, configurations, and associated effects on electromagnetic field strength, and reduced the magnet volume by 60%, leading to an approximately 70% reduction in the total MEMS package volume.
