THE NEED
To rematch a full 3D model of a half-wave monopole antenna on a portable radio chassis to a lower resonant frequency
THE SOLUTION
HFSS™
SooLiam Ooi, of Motorola’s Florida Corporate Research Labs, constructed a model by translating the information on the drawing of the existing antenna to a 3D model in HFSS. After refining and completing the model, Ooi used it for tuning the antenna to a lower resonant frequency.
“From the model, a low-cost solution of making a new antenna from the existing tools with minimum modification was found,” writes Ooi. “A complete 3D model of the radio antenna enables the prediction of the new antenna, as well as future modifications on the antenna construction and on the mechanical parts of the chassis.”
