Nexxim, Q3D Extractor for W-CDMA RFICs

Related Media

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University provides students with capabilities to achieve rewarding careers in designing new products, conducting advanced research, and teaching at all levels of schools. The department consistently ranks among five of the best EE programs in the nation and offers all-level degrees in electrical engineering. The six basic areas of study include electronics, control, computer, power, electromagnetic wave/optics, and communications.

THE NEED
To propose a general co-simulation procedure for RFICs including the package and PCB effects

THE SOLUTION
Nexxim, Q3D Extractor

Packaged chips operating at higher frequencies suffer more from package and PCB effects. Fu-Yi Han, Jian-Ming Wu, and Tzyy-Sheng Horng, at National Sun Yat-sen University's Department of Electrical Engineering, have proposed a complete procedure for the co-design of Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) RFICs.

Their presentation at Ansoft's Converge applications workshop showed how the package and PCB interconnects were transformed into the equivalent circuit elements using Q3D Extractor, then co-simulated with RFICs in Nexxim.

"For both realized modules," they said, "the co-simulation results agree quite well with our theoretical predictions as well as the final measurements."
