HFSS for a combline cavity filter
Related Media
Optimal Designs provides engineering services, support, and training in the analysis and optimization of microwave components. Using industry-standard 2D/3D EM simulation tools, Optimal has analyzed and optimized various antenna designs, couplers, isolators, filters, connectors, and packages.
THE NEED
To analyze a large parametric analysis of tuning screws above the resonators and in the irises to create the desired filter response
THE SOLUTION
HFSS™, Ansoft Designer®
At a recent Ansoft HFSS Users Workshop, Jim Reed, of Optimal Designs, tuned a cavity combline filter with a network analyzer by adjusting the tuning screws above the resonators and tuning screws in the irises. This acted as capacitance to ground and inductive coupling between resonators.
Reed demonstrated the same practice with simulation, using HFSS to analyze a large parametric analysis of tuning screws above the resonators and in the irises to create the desired filter response.
Additionally, Reed employed the tuning bar in Ansoft Designer to view HFSS parametric data and to tune the filter. He also compared simulation to measured data.
