ANSOFT HIGH-PERFORMANCE ELECTRONIC DESIGN NEWS & EVENTS July 2007; Vol. 3, No. 2 More Info: www.ansoft.com DESIGNER'S CORNER: MRI and Human-Body Model Martin Vogel, senior member of the technical staff at Ansoft, presented “Analysis of MRI Systems Including a Human-Body Model” at this year’s International Microwave Symposium. In collaboration with Philips Medical Systems, Martin used a human-body model in the simulation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. Designers of MRI equipment need to perform such simulations to ensure that the equipment produces the desired fields in the presence of a patient and to devise proper scan protocols that satisfy safety regulations. Using HFSS™, designers can combine very small details and very large volumes in one model without time penalty. Applying this to MRI, designers can model a detailed human body and a detailed RF coil in a large room. HFSS v11 Raises the Bar for Accuracy, Capacity, and Performance HFSS(tm) v11 features new higher-order hierarchical basis functions combined with an iterative solver that provides accurate fields using smaller meshes and thus more efficient solutions for large multi-wavelength structures. A new fault tolerant, high-quality finite element meshing algorithm allows HFSS to simulate very complex models two to five times faster using half of the memory compared to previous versions. SIwave v3.5 Adds Features for Power-Rail Extraction SIwave(tm) v3.5 features a fast and efficient finite-element-based DC solver optimized for the extraction of power-rail geometry in complex low-voltage/high-current PCB and package designs. Engineers can view voltage and current distributions in all relevant geometry including vias and bond wires. In addition, users have access to voltage drop and current flow information through all layout elements (vias, bond wires, sources, resistors, inductors, etc.) in tabular format, allowing engineers to quickly identify design rule violations. Panasonic Releases ALIVH Kit for Nexxim, HFSS, and Ansoft Designer Panasonic and Ansoft have released a new design kit for Any Layer Interstitial Via Hole (ALIVH) Board for Nexxim(r), HFSS(tm), and Ansoft Designer(r). The design kit can be used together with Panasonic surface mount technology (SMT) components, such as varistors and common mode noise filters. Engineers designing high-performance HDMI signal lines can utilize this design kit to ensure the signal quality of the digital signal content. The kit is equipped with scalable differential and common mode elements that can be applied in circuit- and system-level simulations to produce realistic waveforms.
