Ansoft Announces Q3D Extractor v7

PITTSBURGH - Aug. 23, 2005 - Ansoft Corporation (NASDAQ: ANST) today released Q3D Extractor® v7, the company's 3D quasi-static electromagnetic parasitic extraction tool. Q3D Extractor computes 3D RLC/2D RLCG parameters from interconnect structures and automatically generates an equivalent SPICE circuit.

This release introduces new features that make it easier and more reliable for engineers to import 3D CAD models and integrated circuit (IC), printed circuit board (PCB) and package layouts from third-party tools. A new fault-tolerant meshing algorithm has been added to make the meshing process tolerant to anomalies that occur in geometric data from CAD/EDA software programs. The new release also provides automatic and interactive model healing techniques that allow users to detect and repair errors in imported geometry. These new capabilities reduce engineering time by streamlining the process of design translation and parasitic extraction.

Q3D Extractor v7 also provides access to more computing power through the introduction of Distributed Analysis. The Distributed Analysis option allows users to expedite design space studies by using multiple computers on a network to analyze different design variations. This dramatically reduces overall analysis time while maximizing the use of existing computer hardware. Users define parametric sweeps of design variables, and the software automatically sends each instance off to separate machines to be solved. The results are then automatically reassembled for post-processing.

Q3D Extractor v7 users can now take advantage of 64-bit Windows® platforms. Using the 64-bit solvers in the new release, users can access practically unlimited amounts of RAM to solve the most demanding computational problems. In addition, Q3D Extractor v7 adds support for the Red Hat Linux operating system in both 32- and 64-bit editions.

Additional features include:

  • Ability to export S-parameters in Touchstone and other common formats
  • A new setting for Multipole Expansion Order
  • Improves convergence and accuracy for demanding AC inductance calculations
  • More efficient meshing for DC inductance problems
  • New Geometry Artifact Visualization
  • New SNLP (Sequential Nonlinear Programming) optimizer within Optimetrics™ (cost option)
  • Distributed Analysis (cost option) for parallel computing of electromagnetic-field solutions

Pricing and Availability: Q3D Extractor v7 is available on PC platforms running Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 and XP Professional x64 and on UNIX® platforms running Solaris, HP-UX and Red Hat Linux. For pricing information, contact your nearest Ansoft sales office.
